‘Chulaphan’ says it’s not clear yet whether ‘Digital Wallet’ will be in the new government or not

“Chulaphan” said it is not yet clear whether the digital wallet project will be in the new government or not, indicating that they must wait to negotiate with the coalition parties first, confirming that the government’s apps are safe and do not need to be deleted.

Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, acting deputy finance minister, talked about the government’s digital wallet policy implementation from now on, saying that it is still moving forward, but when it comes to the mechanism of selecting the prime minister, forming the government, and the policy statement of the new government, they will have to discuss with the new coalition parties, which will have to respect the new prime minister on how the policy will ultimately be drafted. However, he confirmed that the Pheu Thai Party, with 141 MPs, if there is a government formation and the Pheu Thai Party joins, will propose the 10,000 baht top-up policy as one of the policies that should be driven forward, which will depend on negotiations and each party’s opinion.
He also emphasized that as the caretaker government and the cabinet resolution that previously allowed the project to proceed, there have been no changes and it will proceed according to the framework that the law allows, including preparation, registration, and application development. However, all clarity will have to wait until after the new government, and the Pheu Thai Party will discuss this project with the new government.

As for the part that is communicating online, worried that the project will be canceled and the application will have to be deleted, Mr. Chulaphan confirmed that the government application is the main application for public services, not just a digital wallet application or an application for spending. However, the application provides various government services and is highly secure. Therefore, please be assured of the security and the information is already available, not new information. He also emphasized that the government application will be beneficial to the people and there
is no need to delete the application.

Mr. Chulaphan emphasized that the new prime minister and the new government must be respected in deciding which policies can be moved forward. He himself could not give more answers because he had to wait and talk. However, in the meantime, the subcommittees and related committees will continue to meet to discuss moving forward with the projects, including waiting for the cabinet meeting this afternoon (August 15) to see who will be the acting prime minister and set the framework of work as much as possible because the government still has duties to help the people. Some projects may have to be postponed, but there should be more clarity next week.
