CIMB Thai Triathlon Embraces Eco-Friendly Initiatives at Successful Event


Prachuap Khiri Khan: The 5th CIMB Thai Triathlon, themed ‘CIMB THAI TRIATHLON 2024: Moving Forward With You,’ concluded successfully at Suan Son Pradipat Beach, Prachuap Si Khiri Khan Province. Organized by CIMB Thai Bank, the event aimed to promote sustainable living and environmental care. It marked Thailand’s first eco-friendly sports event, focusing on reducing environmental impact and paving the way for sustainable sports competitions across Asia.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Paul Wong See Kin, President and Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Thai Bank Public Company Limited, stated that the triathlon attracted over 600 athletes and enthusiasts, both domestic and international. Participants were drawn to the new route and scenic natural surroundings of Suan Son Pradipat Beach. The event’s organization received support from local government and private sectors, including safety measures by the Royal Thai Army and marine animal safety management by the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Fisheries.

The eve
nt emphasized the ‘Eco-Friendly Event’ concept, adhering to the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to minimize environmental impact. CIMB Thai Bank, in partnership with Summit Niche, implemented measures such as encouraging the use of bicycles for event travel to reduce carbon emissions and promoting waste separation for recycling.

The competition, under the banner of ‘CIMB THAI TRIATHLON 2024: Moving Forward With You,’ served as a platform for athletes to challenge themselves and inspired the sports industry to focus on sustainable practices. It also aimed to encourage health consciousness, aligning with CIMB’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future and promoting societal health.

The triathlon featured four stages: Individual Standard Triathlon, Individual Duathlon, Individual Sprint Triathlon, and Team Relay Standard Triathlon. Winners in the Women’s Singles category included Ms. Kamolchanok Korkaew (age 18-29) and Ms. Karen Campbell from New Zealand (age 60 and over). In the Men’s Singles categ
ory, Mr. Wanchalerm Sriwarom (age 18-29) and Mr. William Lilley from the United States (age 60 and over) emerged victorious. Team T004, consisting of Mr. Thorachon Phoputthaprasit, Mr. Sathawat Saeng-in, and Mr. Nithan Nirapianranan, secured first place in the Team Relay Standard Triathlon.

The event saw a vibrant atmosphere with more than 600 athletes competing and over 1,200 supporters cheering along the picturesque race route at Suan Son Pradipat Beach.
