Indonesia’s aspirations to become a just and prosperous nation could only be achieved by implementing clean governance, Deputy Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nurul Ghufron stated.
“The theme for the 77th anniversary of Indonesian Independence is ‘Recover Faster, Rise Stronger,’ and this will be materialized when the government is free of corrupt practices. Recover faster means that we recover from corrupt practices, so that we can become a just and prosperous nation,” Ghufron noted here on Wednesday.
Ghufron led the ceremony to commemorate Independence Day in the front yard of the commission’s Merah Putih Building.
In his remarks, Ghufron called on KPK employees to utilize the momentum to recall the merits of all heroes in materializing the vision of the nation.
The KPK has been mandated to serve as a driving force in eradicating corruption as part of the efforts to realize the aspirations of becoming a just and prosperous nation, he affirmed.
Ghufron underlined four key points in fulfilling the mandate, with the first being that all employees should have the same perspective that corruption eradication is a golden bridge toward justice and prosperity.
“This is to remind us that Indonesia’s fight to gain independence needed one common perspective,” he stressed.
Second, unity and harmony would make the KPK stronger in its fight against corruption despite the employees’ varied backgrounds.
Third, all elements of the nation should collaborate in the fight to eradicate corruption.
Forth, a clean government is “conditio sine qua non,” or absolute prerequisite, to attain the goal of a just and prosperous nation.
“With these four key points, we remind all KPK employees that the fight to establish the golden bridge by Indonesia’s founding fathers must be kept up. A just and prosperous Indonesia will only be achieved with clean governance,” Ghufron affirmed.
