Commerce launches new dimension of digital trade “OCS CONNECT KICK OFF”

The Department of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, has launched a digital trade service, a standard product delivery service, “OCS CONNECT KICK OFF,” which will transform the Thai government into a “digital government.” As for the issue of the strong baht affecting exports, the Minister of Commerce is ready to discuss with the Governor of the Bank of Thailand to jointly solve the problem. The Bank of Thailand will not interfere in every matter.

Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, presided over the launch of Digital Trade, a standard shipping service, “OCS CONNECT KICK OFF.” Mr. Pichai said that the launch of “OCS CONNECT KICK OFF” this time will focus on providing services for exports and has been successful, which will allow the Thai government to transform into a “digital government” because OCS will make doing business for exports easier. In the past, contacting government agencies took a long time because I used to do business and contacted government agencies and it took up to 29 days to
complete the process. The Ministry of Commerce itself has a duty to support the private sector, traders, and entrepreneurs to work more easily.

OCS CONNECT will enable the export process of 9 standard products, namely Thai Hom Mali rice, cassava products, cassava flour, fish meal, corn, sorghum, mung beans, black mung beans, and cotton wool of the Department of Foreign Trade to provide maximum benefits and meet the needs of service users. The Department of Foreign Trade, through the Office of Commodity Standards, has therefore implemented a project to develop and improve the electronic product standard service system to the “Standard Product Export Service System (OCS Connect)”, raising the level of data linkage between service users and the Department of Foreign Trade.

Mr. Pichai talked about the situation of the strong baht, saying that every country in the world wants to see a weak currency because it will benefit exports. The issue of the strong baht must be discussed with the Governor of the Bank of Th
ailand or BOT to solve the problem together. If exports decrease, the Bank of Thailand will have to take responsibility. The Governor of the BOT graduated from Yale University, an old university in the United States. He must know this well. The BOT must help the country develop, not obstruct everything. He himself does not want to cause a rift between the BOT and the government because they are fighting among themselves. Personally, he thinks that if a country has a weak currency, it will develop. However, he saw news that the Governor of the BOT will come to see him, but at the moment, they have not made an appointment. He is happy because there is no personal problem. If the baht strengthens for another 2-3 months, it will definitely affect exports.
