Commerce Ministry Targets US Market for Thai Exports Expansion

New york: Mr. Chatuporn Buruspat, the Minister of Commerce, along with Mr. Chantavit Tantasith, Deputy Minister of Commerce, and senior ministry executives, recently embarked on a mission to New York City. Their primary objective was to engage with major US private companies such as Clark Associates Inc. and H Mart to bolster the import of Thai products, focusing on food items, rice, processed fruits, and seasonings. The discussions aimed at understanding consumer behavior and planning both online and offline sales promotion activities.

According to Thai News Agency, this visit is part of the '10 Urgent Commercial Missions' policy, designed to expand trade opportunities and strengthen the Thai economy, particularly in the US, Thailand's leading export market. Mr. Chatuporn emphasized the importance of building partnerships with US private sector entities like H Mart and Clark Associates Inc., recognizing their significant roles in the nationwide distribution of food products.

The Minister has tasked Ms. Sunantha Kangwalakulkij, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, with expanding ties with H Mart. This includes organizing joint sales promotion activities, such as participation in THAIFEX-ANUGA ASIA, launching online campaigns, and increasing the presence of Thai products on the H Mart website, which currently features around 62 items under a dedicated 'Thai' section.

Clark Associates Inc., known as the largest distributor of food service equipment and ingredients in the US, has shown an interest in Thai frozen fruit and furniture. The company previously participated in the 'USA-Thailand Online Business Matching' event held in June, indicating potential for future collaborations.

In addition to commercial negotiations, the Ministry is planning the 'Thai SELECT Night' event on July 20, aiming to promote Thai food soft power. Presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi, the event will unveil the new Thai SELECT logo and bring together prominent figures from the food industry, Thai product importers, and media representatives to enhance the image of Thai food in the US.

The Commerce Ministry is optimistic that this US visit will significantly contribute to expanding Thailand's export market. It seeks to affirm Thailand's capability in producing high-quality food products that meet international standards, aligning with global trade trends that prioritize sustainability, quality, and diversity.
