The distribution of affordable cooking oil at Rp14 thousand per liter at modern retail shops must be adjusted to the community’s needs, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has said.
The community is facing several difficulties in buying affordable cooking oil at a price of Rp14 thousand per liter at modern retail stores, especially in Malang City, she highlighted.
“I heard that people went to multiple stores to buy cooking oil but the stocks were empty. I have asked the related parties to monitor the distribution,” she informed on Friday.
The distribution of affordable cooking oil is being carried out by the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo), the governor noted. Furthermore, the Malang city government is expected to coordinate with Aprindo to increase the supply of affordable cooking oil, she added.
The supply of cooking oil at modern retail stores is expected to be increased considering the current high demand in the community, Parawansa said.
The East Java provincial government will continue to monitor the distribution of the commodity, she added.
“Perhaps there are stores with limited stocks and affordable cooking oil will run out quickly. This is already the third day, so I have asked Aprindo to monitor the existing distribution,” she said.
On Friday, Parawansa inspected two modern retail stores in Malang, namely Alfamidi in Sukun Sub-district, Malang, and Superindo in Malang City.
The government, through the Ministry of Trade, has implemented a one-price policy for cooking oil, capping the price of oil at Rp14 thousand per liter, since January 19, 2022. The policy is part of efforts to ensure the availability of cooking oil at affordable prices.
Under the policy, all cooking oil, both premium and simple, will be sold at Rp14 thousand per liter to meet the needs of households and micro and small businesses.
