Jakarta (ANTARA) – Globalization and highly dynamic technological developments currently pose challenges to the endeavors to tackle radicalism, according to Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin.
“We are faced with the challenges of globalization and the development of communication technology, as well as very dynamic information sharing,” Amin remarked at the Shangri-la Hotel here on Wednesday.
The opportunity to obtain global information quickly through the application of technological developments causes information to flow widely and swiftly across countries.
“The implication is that information, including on the values of radicalism and extremism, spreads rapidly across borders between countries. The recruitment process also occurs through the use of new media with all its derivations,” he pointed out.
Moreover, the issue of terrorism also raises uncertainty and further compounds international, regional, and domestic problems.
The vice president accentuated that the government has a mandate, commitment, and a strong legal basis in place to prevent and take requisite steps to eradicate criminal acts of terrorism.
The mandate also aligns with the Constitutional mandate and Law Number 5 of 2018 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.
In the meantime, Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency, Commissioner General of Police, Boy Amar noted that 130 action plan programs were prepared to tackle violent extremism.
“We are striving to implement the action plan as an effort at the upstream level to prevent members of the community from falling victims to various acts of violence, including community involvement in violent acts that lead to terrorism,” he stated.
The agency head remarked that violent extremism was currently driven by ideology, politics, and community activities that disrupt security.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Politics, Law and Security Minister Mahfud MD also attended the BNPT-organized launch of the implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 7 of 2021 on the 2020-2024 National Action Plan for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism.
