Pontianak, W Kalimantan Mayor of Singkawang of West Kalimantan Province, Sumastro, emphasized that cultural diversity in the city strengthens unity and togetherness for the multi-ethnic Singkawang community.

“With this cultural diversity, it does not prevent the creation of the spirit of unity and cooperation, which reflects the characteristics of a civilized nation,” Sumastro stated during the Chinese New Year and Cap Go Meh activities in Singkawang, Saturday.

He highlighted that the cultural diversity and richness in Singkawang have become the pride of its people.

All of those reflect that the Singkawang people are part of a civilized nation, as they can maintain unity and work together in the midst of diversity.

Sumastro affirmed that people in Singkawang City, which is rich in culture, already lived in diversity.

He considered this has become a matter of pride for the Singkawang people.

He also noted that the celebration of the 2574 Chinese New Year and the 2023 Cap Go Meh require a guarantee of stability of public safety and order, so that the implementation can run in an orderly, safe, and smooth manner.

This is where the integration and synergy among the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police (Polri), the Government, mass organizations, and stakeholders are needed by prioritizing preventive and pre-emptive activities.

“Through integration and synergy among the TNI, Polri, the Government, mass organizations, and stakeholders, we will finalize the preparation in order to guarantee security of public safety and order during this year’s Chinese New Year and Cap Go Meh celebrations,” he explained.

According to the mayor, the indicator of the success of the 2023 Liong Kapuas Operation is the creation of a conducive situation during and after Chinese New Year and Cap Go Meh celebrations as well as other activities that are going well and in traffic that is well under control.

He reminded the personnel to conduct their duties with consistency, in accordance with applicable rules and discipline, and to always maintain their health.

“To all personnel, I remind you to always be consistent when you are carrying out your duties in accordance with applicable rules and discipline as well as to maintain your health while carrying out your duties,” he stated.
