Indonesian cyclist Ayustina Delia Priatna will join the WCC team after defending the national team, Merah Putih, at the SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, which will take place from May 12–23, 2022.
National cycling race coach manager Budi Saputra said the WCC team is a continental team under the auspices of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the World Cycling Centre for encouraging young cyclists from around the world.
“Currently, the WCC team is validating Priatna’s performance data assessment. After they review it, and if there is no obstacle, then Priatna will go (join the WCC team) after the Hanoi SEA Games,” Saputra told ANTARA here on Monday.
Meanwhile, Priatna said that she would strive to give her best if she officially joins the WCC team. According to her, it is a great opportunity for her to compete on the international stage.
“Obviously, this is a great opportunity. I am also very motivated to continue to progress and develop,” Priatna remarked.
Earlier, she had joined the continental team from Thailand, the Thailand Women’s Cycling Team in 2020–2021.
“I am also an entry, but because of COVID-19, I am just practicing and hopefully, through the WCC, I will be able to compete,” she said.
Currently, she is preparing for the Hanoi SEA Games. She said she is determined to bag a gold medal for Indonesia after coming home with bronzes in the last two editions.
At the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2017, Priatna finished third in the women’s road race behind Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi That who finished first and Jupha Somnet from Malaysia who finished second.
At the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, Priatna took third place behind Nguyen and the Philippines’ Jermyn Prado.
She will attend the Hanoi Games SEA, but this time, with her achievements at the Asian Road and Para Cycling Championship 2022 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, under her belt. The Dushanbe championship was held from March 25–29, 2022.
