The National Sports Grand Design (DBON) requires local governments to pay attention to sports to strengthen people’s health and improve national sports achievements, Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali has said.
While promoting DBON s in Bali on Wednesday, he said that community fitness is an important aspect that must be accomplished first before achievements.
Local governments must start reviving the sports culture among the community to improve their fitness, so it will be easy to find superior talents or potential athletes, the minister added.
“The sports culture is the start, while the achievement is the result. If the people are not fit, it will be difficult to get good sports talents,” the minister remarked.
All regional leaders—governors, district heads, and mayors—are obliged to carry out Presidential Regulation Number 86/2021 concerning DBON, he said.
Furthermore, he also emphasized that it is important for local governments to implement the regulation to increase synergy between regional and central governments.
In addition, the national design encourages regional leaders to promote a sports-based national economy, since the sector has not been developed seriously, both in the forms of sports tourism and the sports industry, Amali said.
Hence, DBON exists as a guide for the central government, regional governments, sports organizations, as well as business and industry players for improving national sports, he added.
“It is hoped that the development of national sports can run effectively, efficiently, and sustainably,” he added.
The presidential regulation on DBON was officially signed on the commemoration of the 38th National Sports Day on September 9, 2021.
DBON aims to develop national sports from upstream to downstream sectors, starting from fostering athletes to gaining sports achievements at the Olympic and Paralympic level.
