DE reveals 11-month statistics on cracking down on illegal pages and URLs


Statistics for 11 months, DE has increased its crackdown on illegal pages/URLs by 11 times, moving forward to block more than 138,000 items.

Mr. Prasert Chantarawongthong, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE), revealed that the DE Ministry prioritizes the accelerating suppression of online crimes, especially the blocking of all forms of illegal social media pages and URLs of websites, which are important channels for criminals to commit online crimes. An operational team has been set up to inspect, monitor, and block, as well as to upgrade the blocking process to be faster, tighter, and more efficient.

According to statistics on blocking of all types of illegal social media pages and URLs by the Ministry of Digital Economy from 1 October 2023 – 31 August 2024, 138,660 types of illegal social media pages and URLs have been blocked, an 11-fold increase from the same period before (1 October 2022 – 31 August 2023) with 12,611 items.

For social media, the pages/URLs blocked from October 1, 2023 – Augu
st 31, 2024, in the distortion, fraud and obscenity categories, are as follows: distortion/fraud cases, 47,471 cases, an increase of 7.68 times from the same period before (October 1, 2022 – August 31, 2023) with 6,182 cases; and obscenity cases, 11,948 cases, an increase of 14.82 times from the same period before (October 1, 2022 – August 31, 2023) with 806 cases.

‘It can be seen that in the past 11 months, the Ministry of Digital Economy has blocked more than 138,000 illegal social media pages/URLs. The statistics increase every month because of the adjustment of the work process to be faster and more efficient, including continuous inspection and monitoring at all times, and receiving cooperation from the public in reporting clues, fake news information, illegal websites via the 1111 hotline,’ said Mr. Prasert.

ammers who trick people into investing or clicking on suspicious platform links on social media, pages, and illegal URLs.
