Bangkok: Deputy Minister of Defense welcomed the US Ambassador to Thailand, emphasizing security relations and comprehensive cooperation.
According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Weerayut Nomsiri, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, disclosed that on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense, welcomed Mr. Robert F. Godec, Ambassador of the United States to Thailand. This visit took place at the Minister of Defense Reception Room, Ministry of Defense, where mutual respect and cooperation were underscored.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the enduring Thai-U.S. relationship, which began with the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1833. He noted the ongoing development of military cooperation, particularly through the “Cobra Gold” military exercise, the largest in the Indo-Pacific region. He expressed Thailand’s gratitude for the U.S.’s continued support and commitment to ASEAN centrality.
The US Ambassador expressed appreciation for the welcome and reaffirmed the strong bilateral alliance, particularly in security cooperation. He praised Thailand’s regional role and mentioned significant upcoming meetings, including the 80th United Nations General Assembly and the 47th ASEAN Summit. He also discussed the development of a defense industry partnership between the two nations.
Regarding the Thai-Cambodian border issue, Thailand thanked US President Donald Trump for his role in ceasefire negotiations. Thailand committed to a peaceful resolution in line with the United Nations Charter and international law. The importance of the Interim Observer Team and the establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team were highlighted. These issues, due to their security implications, might require Cabinet or Parliamentary consideration. The US Ambassador expressed condolences for losses along the Thai-Cambodian border, readiness to assist recovery efforts, and support for ceasefire negotiations.
The Deputy Minister reiterated gratitude to the United States for its support and reaffirmed commitment to strengthening Thailand-US relations at various levels, ensuring a sustainable partnership.
