Bangkok: Dr. Somruk Chungsamarn has been appointed as the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health. The announcement came from Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, following a cabinet meeting.

According to Thai News Agency, the cabinet approved the proposal from the Ministry of Public Health to appoint Dr. Somruk, who currently holds the position of Director-General of the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine. Dr. Somruk will succeed Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, the current Permanent Secretary, who is set to retire on September 30, 2025. Dr. Somruk’s appointment will be effective from October 1, 2025.
