Drunk young man drives pickup truck against traffic, hits motorcycle, 2 people die at the scene

A drunk young man drove a pickup truck against traffic and crashed head-on into a motorcycle. A 14-year-old girl riding pillion died instantly.

The incident occurred at 5 am today (October 5) on Bang Kruai Sai Noi Road, opposite a village in Tambon Bang Bua Thong, Amphoe Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi Province. The deceased were two 14-year-old girls. Nearby, the blue and black motorcycle the deceased were riding on was badly damaged. The other party, Mr. Sittichai, aged 35, the owner of the white motorcycle, was parked in the wrong direction, the front of the motorcycle was badly damaged. He also stated that he could not remember how he drove. He had just finished work at a shopping mall on Ratchaphruek Road and had not rested for two days. He did not know if he fell asleep at the wheel or not. He really did not know how he drove to this point, but he admitted that he had drunk two bottles of beer.

While Mr. Noppadol, 18 years old, the senior of the two deceased, said that the deceased rode a motorcycle from
Sai Noi to return home in Bang Bua Thong. Along the way, they ran out of gas, so he called me to come help push the motorcycle to their home. I went to help until I found a gas station, so I stopped to fill up and rode a motorcycle together. When I arrived at the scene of the accident, I saw a pickup truck turning at a U-turn and going against traffic at high speed. I shouted to tell the two deceased to be careful. At that time, I was able to swerve in time, but the two younger siblings were unable to dodge in time, so they were hit hard by the pickup truck, causing their deaths. In addition, after the accident, I heard the pickup truck driver get out of the car and say, “It’s right that you’re driving against traffic.” I heard clearly that he was the one who said it, but he didn’t admit it.

The police measured Mr. Sittichai’s alcohol level and found it to be as high as 119 milligrams percent, exceeding the legal limit. They therefore took him into custody for legal proceedings.
