EGAT Group ‘EGCO-RATCH’ Advances in Renewable Energy Projects in Taiwan and Philippines

Bangkok: EGCO Group is nearing completion of the Yunlin wind turbine project in Taiwan with a promising update of having installed all 80 turbines, poised to supply 640 megawatts of electricity to the grid by year-end. Concurrently, Ratcha Group is progressing with the Bacolod solar power project in the Philippines, aiming to commence operations by 2025 with a capacity of 145 megawatts.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Jiraporn Sirikham, President of EGCO Group, detailed the significant progress of the Yunlin project, located in the Taiwan Strait. With 78 out of 81 cables laid, the project, holding a 26.56% stake by EGCO and a 20-year power purchase agreement with Taipower, has already contributed over 1,600GWh of renewable energy to the Taiwan grid. Dr. Sirikham emphasized the collaborative efforts and support from the Taiwanese government that have been crucial to this achievement. She expressed confidence in meeting the projected end-of-year completion, forecasting substantial annual cash flows of appro
ximately 2 billion baht in the initial five years.

On another front, Mr. Nitat Vorapanpipat, CEO of Ratcha Group Public Company Limited, shared insights on the Bacolod Solar Power Plant Project in Negros Occidental Province, Philippines. Scheduled to begin construction in October 2024, the project has secured funding from Security Bank Corporation and Philippine National Bank. With an investment exceeding 100 million US dollars, the solar plant aims to start delivering power by the fourth quarter of 2025. The plan includes a phase two addition of a battery energy storage system to enhance stability in electricity production and distribution. Most of the generated power is set to be sold to Aboitiz Power Corporation affiliates under a decade-long agreement, with the remainder aimed at the wholesale electricity spot market. Nexif Ratcha Energy Investment Company Limited, holding a 49 percent stake, will manage and operate the project.

Moreover, Nexif Raj Energy Investment Co., Ltd. is also developing addition
al renewable energy projects, including the San Miguel Bay nearshore and Lucena offshore wind power projects, with capacities of approximately 500 and 475 megawatts respectively.
