Bangkok: European tourists have shown a consistent preference for Thailand as their top travel destination, according to a recent survey conducted by the digital tourism platform Agoda. The survey highlights that for two consecutive years, Thailand has been the most searched Asian destination among European travelers, with Germany leading the pack.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, shared that German tourists have ranked as the number one European visitors to Thailand for the past two years, followed by tourists from France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Spain. The survey also noted a significant increase in travel interest from other European countries, with searches from Greece up 67%, the Czech Republic up 26%, and Poland up 16%. Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Pattaya continue to be the most favored destinations within Thailand.
The popularity of Koh Samui can be partly attributed to its portrayal in the series ‘The White Lotus,’ which showcased the island’s allure and atmosphere. The survey’s findings are supported by tourism data indicating that Thailand welcomed over 14 million foreign tourists in the first half of 2025, with a notable increase in both short-haul and long-haul visitors.
Ms. Sasikarn emphasized the strategic importance of the approaching European summer as an opportunity to bolster the Asian tourism sector, particularly in Thailand. The Thai government is actively promoting tourism through various initiatives to ensure that the country remains an attractive year-round destination. Efforts are focused on enhancing local attractions, improving service standards, and ensuring safety to entice repeat visits and support sustainable economic growth.
The government is committed to leveraging tourism to drive economic progress, with a focus on enriching local communities and improving the quality of life for residents throughout Thailand.
