Family Sunday Movie: Ministry streams films, invites people to watch

The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry has invited people to stream the movies chosen for the 2022 Family Sunday Movie (FSM) through the ministry’s official YouTube channel as a form of appreciation toward local filmmakers.

The ministry said it will stream two movies that have won the FSM Official Selection in March 2022: Maramba, a documentary by Riandhani Yudha Pamungkas, and Germintang, a fiction film by Irfan Akba.

In a statement issued on Monday, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that Maramba and Gemintang will be officially nominated at FSM award night in November 2022.

The two films will enter the nomination along with other films chosen from the March to October 2022 period, he said.

Maramba will be streamed from March 2–31, 2022, and Gemintang from March 1–30, 2022, he said.

The ministry has prepared a number of rewards for the chosen films, he said.

The rewards comprise certificates, cash, Wonderful Indonesia souvenirs, and FSM kits, he informed.

The movies’ posters will also be displayed at the ministry’s building as a part of the exhibition, he said.

In addition, out of the chosen films streaming on YouTube, the film with the most number of viewers will receive an additional cash prize, Uno said.

Through FSM, the minister said he expects a platform for regional filmmakers to be created to promote short films so that they can compete and become the pride of Indonesia’s film industry.

Young regional filmmakers can also get an equal opportunity to showcase their works, gain competition experience, and hone their skills to produce better works, he added.

In addition, this will open opportunities to create jobs and revive the economy sustainably, he said.

“Continue to create, make great works, develop regional potential, and prove that we can be an agent of change for the future so that we can bolster the economy and create broader business opportunities,” the minister remarked.

FSM is a short film festival initiated by the ministry through the Music, Film, and Animation Directorate.

It is meant to be a form of appreciation toward the film industry workers, specifically indie films, and a platform for promoting chosen short films, the ministry said.

Complete information on FSM can be accessed through FSM’s social media account and website www.familysundaymovie.com, it added.
