Hat Yai: A father was overwhelmed with grief as he received the body of his son, who was tragically shot dead by the son of a prominent lawyer. The emotional scene unfolded as he performed a ceremony to invite the spirit of his deceased son. The court has denied bail to the shooter, who now faces prison.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred when Mr. Nitiphan, aged 37 and the son of a famous lawyer in Hat Yai, fatally shot Mr. Yongyuth, also 37, during a gathering with five friends. Surveillance footage captured the horrific moment when Mr. Nitiphan, after a heated argument over a missing gold bracelet, shot Mr. Yongyuth multiple times. The footage further showed Mr. Nitiphan calmly drinking liquor before leaving the scene, only to return and shoot Mr. Yongyuth again.
The family of Mr. Yongyuth, including his father and younger sibling, collected his body from Hat Yai Hospital, where an autopsy had been conducted. They transported him to Wat Phraek Suwan in Khuan Niang District, Songkhla Prov
ince for religious ceremonies. The autopsy uncovered four bullet casings in Mr. Yongyuth’s body, distributed among his head, torso, and arm.
The scene was heart-wrenching as family members received the body. The father broke down in tears, while the younger brother expressed his anguish by hitting the floor and screaming. The family later visited the crime scene in Hat Yai City to perform a spiritual ceremony, inviting Mr. Yongyuth’s spirit to return home for the religious rites.
Mr. Nitiphan, who turned himself into Hat Yai Police Station, continues to deny the charges against him. He faces four serious charges, including intentional murder and illegal possession of a firearm. The Hat Yai Police took him to Songkhla Provincial Court, where his relatives’ bail application was rejected due to the gravity of the case. Consequently, Mr. Nitiphan was sent to Songkhla Prison pending trial.
