First-ever festival celebrates 100 years history of Tra Vinh wax coconuts

A festival is underway in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh on August 27 to celebrate the history of local wax coconut. Wax coconut has a 100-year-old history with local people in Cau Ke district, Tra Vinh province. Unlike regular coconuts, wax coconuts have a thick, soft, sticky layer of coconut meat, along with a small amount of thick, creamy water, boasting a rich, buttery taste and a very distinct aroma. This renowned waxy layer is what makes wax coconuts truly unique and one-of-a-kind. The event aims to promote wax coconuts, a famous specialty of Tra Vinh province, and offer an opportunity for trading goods, connecting supply and demand, and calling for investment in the agricultural processing and tourism sectors that are potential strengths of the province. Within the framework of the event, a cooking competition was held with 15 teams, who made 100 different dishes from wax coconut. Cau Ke district’s People’s Committee, the event organiser, received the recognition from Vietnam Records Organisati
on for an event with the most dishes and products made from wax coconuts.
