Adjunct Senior Commissioner Fitria Mega became the first policewoman to serve as chief of the Tebo Police Force, Jambi Province.
Mega officially took the reins after being sworn in by Jambi Regional Police Chief, Inspector General A. Rachmad, along with three other officials at the Jambi Regional Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
Mega has several achievements to her credit, including being the Southeast Asian karate champion. She also holds a master’s degree in psychology.
While serving as police officer, Mega was the head of the women and children service unit at the South Jakarta Police, head of the Sukmajaya Police, head of the Cempaka Putih Police of the Greater Jakarta Police, and head of the Serang Police Force in Banten.
As head of the Resort Police, Mega’s main goal was to push the vaccination rate in Tebo District. Progress in the region is still hindered due to several challenges, such as communication network problems plaguing the remote areas. However, she has vowed to make all-out efforts to address those issues.
Mega affirmed that during her leadership, she would apply a humane yet firm approach with all personnel, as she had earlier followed.
“In a motherly way yet still firm with the personnel. I will also add a familial touch in my orders to the officers as a method to maintain public security and peace in Tebo,” he stated.
On a related note, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has vowed to offer strategic positions to female police officers as part of his efforts to combat gender inequality issues within the institution. He also vouched to hone the capabilities of the personnel to fulfill that goal.
Prabowo is confident in both male and female officers being able to handle high-risk special assignments.
