The Indonesian G20 Presidency is offering an important opportunity for young people to understand the context of pandemic handling that can be applied in the future, spokesperson for G20 Indonesia, Maudy Ayunda, has said.
“I always tell my fellow young people that curiosity is actually enough to change the world. If we have curiosity, then we have the context to change (the world),” Ayunda remarked here on Tuesday.
The actress and writer said that the cycle of the pandemic is likely to repeat at intervals of decades. So, the generation that will experience pandemics in the future is today’s young generation.
“Therefore, the G20 Presidency is important for us to know because we need to know the context of what needs to be done to deal with pandemics in the future,” she explained.
Ayunda said that this year’s G20, which is led by Indonesia, is a momentum to build a stronger health infrastructure for dealing with the impact of a pandemic, such as a global crisis. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has been a new phenomenon for every country, Indonesia has been able to overcome the crisis well, she noted.
“From the perspective of young people, what matters more in the future is health. I see that this G20 Presidency provides an opportunity to build an adaptive global health infrastructure,” she said.
Young people need to be reminded that the global situation is changing very fast and must be followed up with new treatments and facilities, she added.
“There are so many unpredictable events, and young people should take advantage of the current pandemic as an opportunity to understand how to deal with pandemics in the future,” she highlighted.
She said that the current handling of the pandemic could be used as a benchmark to regulate the system for handling events that cannot be controlled.
“I think this is a reminder, not only in the health area, but also in many other sectors, such as digital transformation, energy transition, as well as the climate crisis,” Ayunda added.
She said that the spirit of working together to control the COVID-19 pandemic needs to be invoked by the young generation in all challenges since it would be very beneficial for future generations.
