BANGKOK: Almost the entire gang involved in the kidnapping and extortion of a Chinese national in Thailand has been apprehended, as confirmed by the national police chief. The incident has prompted authorities to emphasize preventive measures against transnational criminal activities in the country.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, announced the significant progress made in the case concerning Chinese nationals extorting money from their compatriots in the Suthisan Police Station area. He confirmed that most of the gang members have been arrested, highlighting a commitment to preventing such incidents in Thailand due to potential impacts on public confidence and the tourism sector. The Metropolitan Police Bureau is actively pursuing the investigation, with efforts underway to apprehend any remaining suspects.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat emphasized the importance of proactive measures, instructing the Immigration Bureau and Tourist Police Bureau
to prevent these crimes rather than reacting post-incident.
