GISTDA reveals satellite images of flooding in 7 districts of Chiang Rai


GISTDA revealed images from the RADARSAT-2 satellite this morning (12 Sept.) showing flooding in 7 districts of Chiang Rai Province, while in Chiang Mai, 1 district, Mae Ai, was flooded.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), through the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), is monitoring the flood situation using RADARSAT-2 satellite images on September 12, 2024 at 6:12 a.m., showing flooding in 7 districts of Chiang Rai Province: Mae Sai 25,204 rai, Chiang Saen 15,214 rai, Muang Chiang Rai 14,408 rai, Mae Chan 12,726 rai, Doi Luang 6,205 rai, Wiang Chiang Rung 3,342 rai, and Wiang Chai 927 rai.

While Chiang Mai Province found flooded areas in 1 district, Mae Ai, 8,412 rai, total flooded areas of 86,438 rai. From the image, it can be seen that the area in red is the Myanmar side, which found flooded areas of 8,445 rai. The amount of flooded areas that occurred in the area will be drained into the Mekong River.

In such situation, GISTDA has sent the satellite image data to the main responsible agency to use to support the management according to the mission, both in terms of planning and monitoring to assess the situation further.
