Jakarta (ANTARA) – Companies should further empower occupational safety and health committees (P2K3) to make them more effective in handling COVID-19 at the company level, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has said.
This is in accordance with the Circular Letter of the Minister of Manpower Number M/9/HK.04/VII/2021 concerning Optimizing the Implementation of Health Protocols in the Workplace and Provision of Health Equipment and Facilities for Workers/Laborers by Companies During the COVID-19 Pandemic, which was issued on July 3, 2021.
“The important point that we need to convey here is the effort in number five, which is to make the Occupational Safety and Health Supervisory Committee in the company effective in compiling and implementing strategic steps in anticipation of an emergency,” said the minister at a virtual P2K3 National Meeting that ANTARA joined from Jakarta on Tuesday.
The circular has stressed that companies that do not have a P2K3 yet must form a COVID-19 Handling Task Force to coordinate with the task force at the regional government level, she informed. The P2K3 is meant to be an institution, comprising employers and workers, formed within a company to help execute and handle occupational safety and health efforts, she said.
Every workplace that employs over 100 people or less, but uses materials, processes, and installations with high risks is required to form a P2K3, the minister stated.
She emphasized the crucial role of P2K3 in developing and carrying out occupational safety and health efforts is becoming better understood in the midst of handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We really hope that the existence of the P2K3 in the company will help encourage the implementation of health protocols in the workplace and encourage all workers to obey health protocols wherever they are,” she remarked.
