Bangkok: The government has extended an invitation to the public to participate in merit-making activities for the significant days of Asarnha Bucha and Khao Phansa in 2025. These activities will take place in 10 provinces, showcasing 10 distinctive merit-making traditions, along with an opportunity to engage in online Dharma quizzes and receive online certificates.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the government encourages Buddhists across the nation to partake in these activities on Asarnha Bucha Day, which falls on Thursday, July 10, 2025, and Buddhist Lent Day on July 11, 2025. The events will be organized both in central and regional areas throughout the country.
In the 10 selected provinces, there are grand traditions planned, such as the Royal Candle Procession in Nakhon Phanom Province, the Korat Candle Procession in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and the Prakhon Chai Candle Procession in Buriram Province. Other notable events include the Lat Chado Water Candle Procession in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, the Phayao Lake Water Candle Festival in Phayao Province, and the Khao Phansa Flower Alms Giving Ceremony at Wat Phra Phutthabat in Saraburi Province, among others.
Ms. Sasikarn also stated that Buddhists interested in online activities could participate in an online Dharma quiz organized by the National Office of Buddhism. This quiz, available between July 9 and July 16, 2025, consists of 10 questions. Participants who achieve a score of 60% or more will be awarded an online certificate.
