Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini spoke at length about strategic policies to drive recovery after the Seroja Tropical Cyclone disaster in East Nusa Tenggara that struck in 2021.
Rismaharini spoke of her administration encouraging steps to improve housing for people affected by the disaster as well as to conduct dredging in shallow rivers, so as to minimize flooding.
“In East Nusa Tenggara, we help by providing houses for residents and also dredge rivers to reduce flooding. We are also preparing to build a community center that is equipped with modern facilities,” she noted in a statement received here on Thursday.
The minister highlighted that the community center is intended to develop human resources from East Nusa Tenggara.
Rismaharini elaborated that the ministry remained committed to overseeing the completion of the community center’s facilities, as they were also viewed as being a long-term program and not just for the interim.
“We provide the best community center facilities, so that children in East Nusa Tenggara can access various information for the development of education and knowledge,” she remarked.
Another strategic policy to be applied in East Nusa Tenggara is the implementation of community economic empowerment programs aimed at entrepreneurship development, livestock, and agriculture assistance.
The ministry will also build clean water facilities as well as solar cells as source of energy.
On the same occasion, Rismaharini lauded two private television network companies for contributing aid worth Rp1 billion.
The donation is in line with the policy of her administration, and it will be allocated to shelters to prepare for handling flood-affected communities.
