Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across various regions of Thailand, including Bangkok, over the next 24 hours. The forecast includes significant precipitation in the central, eastern, and southern regions due to a monsoon trough and low-pressure cell impacting the area.
According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department detailed that the monsoon trough will move across the upper southern and eastern regions, merging with a low-pressure system over the central coast of Vietnam. Concurrently, easterly and southeasterly winds are expected to carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand across the lower northeastern, central, and eastern regions. This meteorological combination will lead to heavy rains in several parts of the central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the eastern and southern regions of Thailand. The department has advised residents to be vigilant about the potential
dangers of heavy and accumulated rain, which may trigger flash floods and forest runoffs, particularly near hillsides, waterways, and low-lying areas.
The Andaman Sea is expected to see wave heights around 1 meter, while the Gulf of Thailand will experience waves of less than 1 meter. However, in regions experiencing thunderstorms, wave heights could exceed 2 meters. The advisory extends a caution to sailors navigating these areas, recommending they avoid areas with forecasted thunderstorms due to increased wave heights.
Detailed regional forecasts include:
– Bangkok and surrounding areas: 60% chance of thunderstorms with heavy rain in some parts.
– Northern region: 30% chance of thunderstorms, particularly in provinces such as Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai.
– Northeastern region: 20% chance of thunderstorms, with areas like Nakhon Ratchasima and Buriram affected.
