High-Speed Rail Contract Amendments Expected to Reach Thai Cabinet Within Two Weeks

BANGKOK: The proposed amendments to the contract for the high-speed train project connecting three key airports in Thailand are slated for Cabinet review in approximately two weeks, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Pichai Chuanhavajira. The revisions, currently under scrutiny by various ministries, follow the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Committee’s recent adjustments to the contract.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pichai, who also chairs the EEC Committee, detailed that the contract for the high-speed rail linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, and U-Tapao airports has undergone essential revisions which necessitate a review by relevant governmental agencies. This process is expected to take about two weeks before the proposal can be presented to the Cabinet.

Mr. Pichai declined to specify which aspects of the contract were modified, stating a preference to first gather feedback from the involved ministries. He also did not confirm whether these changes might require dra
fting a new contract, indicating that such a decision would depend on the Cabinet and ministry reviews. Furthermore, he acknowledged that the project timeline had already experienced delays.

The high-speed rail project is part of a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity between major transportation hubs in Thailand, which is critical for boosting economic growth and development within the Eastern Economic Corridor.
