Human resources (HR) in Indonesia must prepare to face the challenges of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the shift to Society 5.0 era, chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Arsjad Rasjid, has said.
Thus, the collaboration of Kadin, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), and the State-Owned Banks Association (Himbara) with the Association of Indonesian Economic Scholars (ISEI) can play a major role in increasing human resource capacity and knowledge capacity in organizations, he noted.
“Especially to produce reliable human resources who are ready to take us to Industry 4.0 and beyond to become Society 5.0,” Arsjad Rasjid said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for increasing student competence in capital markets in Jakarta on Monday.
If domestic human resources are not prepared for these developments, the impact will be huge, and could involve many people losing their jobs due to digitalization and automation, he pointed out.
Thus, to take advantage of opportunities and answer the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the Indonesian people must build their skills in literacy data and technology to achieve Society 5.0, he said.
“This memorandum of understanding is intended as a form of commitment to our real support for the program of Merdeka Belajar, especially for supporting the smooth implementation of HR capacity building programs such as collaboration and apprenticeship training programs,” he added.
According to Rasjid, the internship program can be one solution to the challenges of Industrial Revolution 4.0 since through the program, students can get directly involved in internal activities at the internship institutions, improving their chances of being accepted as employees in the institutions.
In addition, the internship program can equip students with knowledge of best practices, sectors, and networks in the industry, he noted.
As a result, it can provide valuable work experience that can be useful after graduating from university, he said.
“This certified internship program is actually in line with Kadin’s work program, where one of the four pillars of Kadin is about entrepreneurship and competence,” he added.
Investment in human resources is key for maintaining Indonesia’s growth until 2045, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir had said earlier.
“Investment in human resources, investment in the younger generation, investment in research and development, and investment in innovation are key to maintaining growth until 2045,” he remarked.
According to Thohir, several aspects should be prepared related to investment in human resources, specifically skilled labor, digitalization, digital infrastructure, and health.
