Husband and wife arrested for stealing property throughout Bangkok and its vicinity

Metropolitan Police Bureau arrests a couple who went around stealing from convenience stores and department stores throughout Bangkok and its vicinity, using the money for daily expenses.

Yesterday (August 21), the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s detectives arrested two suspects, Mr. Alongkorn, 34, and Ms. Chanakan, 27, on charges of ‘jointly committing theft by committing the crime together with two or more people using a vehicle to facilitate the crime or to take the property away or to avoid arrest.’ They were arrested in front of an unnumbered hut on the side of the railway on Sutthawat Road, Siriraj Subdistrict, Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok.

From checking the CRIMES system of the Royal Thai Police, it was found that Mr. Alongkorn had another outstanding arrest warrant in the system, which was the arrest warrant from the Bangkok South Criminal Court on July 4, 67, Bang Rak Police Station, for the offense of ‘jointly committing theft at nighttime by committing the offense together with two or more people’
. Ms. Chanakan was arrested according to the arrest warrant from the Bangkok South Criminal Court on August 8, 2567, Yannawa Police Station, for the offense of ‘jointly committing theft by committing the offense together with two or more people using a vehicle to facilitate the offense or to take the property away or to avoid arrest’.

The investigation found that there had been a theft in convenience stores in the areas of Yan Nawa Police Station, Bang Rak Police Station, Thung Maha Mek Police Station and nearby areas. The Metropolitan Police Bureau, together with local police stations, checked CCTV footage until they were able to identify the group of thieves, who were later identified as a husband and wife. They collected evidence and sent it to investigators to request permission from the court to issue an arrest warrant.

Later yesterday (August 21), the arresting police officers found a suspicious person with a similar appearance to the suspect, resting near a hut with no number on the side of the railw
ay. The police officers identified themselves as officers and showed the arrest warrant. The suspect confessed to all charges, saying that he had committed the crime many times and did not know where he had committed the crime. As far as he knew, he had committed the crime four times between May 13 and June 7, 2014. He used the money and items he had seized for personal expenses, to pay the electricity bill, and to raise his child. He was then taken to the investigation officer at Yannawa Police Station for further legal proceedings.
