Bang Phli: A 27-year-old man filed a complaint after being tricked by an online car sales gang into transferring money before driving away with his 8-month pregnant wife in the car. Luckily, he jumped into the car to save his wife in time. A surveillance camera inside a gas station in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, captured the moment when two criminals, wearing yellow and black shirts, took advantage of the moment when the victim’s wife, who was 8 months pregnant, drove away in a pickup truck. The victim then quickly ran out of the store and jumped into the back of the pickup truck.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Manop, the victim, brought evidence to file a complaint with the Social Justice Foundation. On May 20, he contacted a Facebook page to buy a foreclosed car. He asked to buy a Toyota Rocco, a green cap, for 640,000 baht. Mr. Bank sent him the pawn documents and the name of the owner of the car and said, ‘If you like it and are satisfied, transfer a deposit of 7,000 baht. The remaining 627,000 baht can be transferred on the day you receive the car. The remaining 13,000 baht is a brokerage fee.’
Later, on May 23, he and his wife, who was 8 months pregnant, made an appointment to deliver the car to Mr. Bank in front of a coffee shop in a gas station in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan Province. When the appointment time came, Mr. Santi, Mr. Tanongsak, and another man, believed to be Mr. Bank, brought the car to him and told him to transfer the remaining 627,000 baht. His wife transferred the money into the account and got into the front seat of the car that they had agreed to buy. After the money was transferred, Mr. Santi shouted at him, ‘Who did you transfer the money to? I don’t know you.’ He then quickly got into the car, started the engine, and drove away, while his wife was still in the car. Mr. Tanongsak and Mr. Bank fled separately after receiving the money.
When he saw that things were not going well, he quickly jumped onto the back of the pickup truck, punched the glass until it shattered, and crawled into the passenger compartment, shouting for Mr. Santi to stop the car. Mr. Santi opened the door and ran away. He tried to shout for the locals to call the police before a good citizen let him sit on the back of a motorcycle to track down Mr. Santi and his gang.
Until Mr. Santi and Mr. Tanongsak returned to the car, with the Bang Phli Police Station patrol officers coming to the scene and taking everyone to the investigator. The police said that Mr. Santi and Mr. Tanongsak were the victims and owners of the car, and could not proceed with the case. He himself felt that he had not been treated fairly, so he traveled with his wife to file a complaint with the foundation because he felt that the police were not being fair.
Most recently at 7:00 p.m. on May 27, 2025, the couple traveled to meet with Pol. Col. Pairoj Petchploy, Superintendent of Bang Phli Police Station, to follow up on progress and file a complaint, submitting evidence such as CCTV clips, chats, and money transfer slips, pressing additional charges of fraud and illegal detention, and requesting a change of investigator handling the case, as it was discovered that the couple had posted threats to the victim on a news page.
