Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Kurnia Ramadhana, at a national webinar on Wednesday, encouraged the public to conduct consolidation or cooperate with the law enforcement authorities to optimize corruption eradication in Indonesia.
“We still have a lot of work to do to eradicate corruption. To this end, the people’s consolidation is necessary to observe and to critique the nation,” he noted.
During the “2021 Corruption Criminal Act Handling Reflection: Corruption Case Handling Breakthrough between Attorney and Corruption Eradication Commission” event, he noted that through this consolidation, the state will be encouraged to support the corruption eradication efforts.
Moreover, he highlighted several corruption eradication tasks that Indonesia has to fulfill, such as returning the state’s losses that have not been fully covered.
“The state’s losses due to corruption in 2020 had reached Rp56.7 trillion. The money to replace it is only Rp18 trillion. Hence, there is a gap of around Rp30 trillion that just disappeared,” Ramadhana stated.
In addition, he deemed that the effort to grant remission to corruptors by the state based on the same condition as any other general criminal acts will reduce the deterrent effect on corruptors.
This is despite the fact that granting remission to corruptors should not be similar to that of other criminal act perpetrators, he stated.
Corruption perpetrators should follow several requirements, such as becoming a justice collaborator and replacing the state’s losses if they are looking to receive remission, he remarked.
Thereafter, Ramadhana urged law enforcement authorities to optimize corruption eradication starting from their internal parties.
The police and district attorney are expected to adopt a brave approach in prosecuting corruption cases that involve their internal parties.
“If this is not done, then how can we clean up a dirty floor if we use a dirty broom,” he remarked.
