Solo, Central Java Indonesia emerged as the general champion in the para table tennis sport branch in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games (APG) XI at Solo Techno Park, Central Java, by clocking an achievement of 27 gold medals.
Indonesia NPC’s table tennis coach Bayu Widihapsara Purba noted here on Saturday that during the final round, the Indonesian contingent bagged six gold medals from 10 events that it participated in.
The Indonesian para table tennis team secured a total of 65 medals comprising 27 gold, 16 silver, and 22 bronze medals.
“Indonesia also became the general champion of APG this year,” he remarked.
According to Purba, Indonesia’s achievement of gold medals in the table tennis branch exceeded the initial target of 12 gold medals.
Thailand ranks second, with a medal collection of 21 gold, 24 silver, and 12 bronze medals, while Timor-Leste is placed third, with two gold and three bronze medals.
Malaysia ranks fourth, with one gold and one silver; the Philippines is in fifth place, with one silver and 11 bronze, while Vietnam is ranked sixth, with one silver and 10 bronze medals.
Singapore was placed seventh, with one silver and three bronze medals, followed by Cambodia, with one bronze medal. Meanwhile, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, and Myanmar did not bag any medal in para table tennis.
Indonesia’s success in para table tennis is owing to the hard work and fighting spirit of athletes to become the best, Purba explained.
Table tennis athletes played splendidly and unbelievably managed to beat top athletes from other countries, he affirmed.
What comes as a surprise is the fact that Leli Marlina, who competed in the women’s singles TT5 class, and Sili Fadilah, women’s singles TT7 class, managed to bag a gold medal, he noted.
This achievement was beyond the country’s target, he remarked.
