Indonesia has been designated as the host of the Asia rifle, pistol championship in 2024, which will serve as a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics for Asian shooting athletes.
Sixteen best shooters at the continental tournament — which will be held at the Senayan Shooting Range, Jakarta, in March 2024 — will qualify for the Olympics, secretary general of the executive board of the Indonesian Target Shooting and Hunting Association (Perbakin), Henry Oka, informed.
“It (the Asia rifle, pistol championship 2024) is a big and most awaited tournament since it contests 16 quotas (for competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics) for Asian shooters,” he told ANTARA here on Wednesday.
Prior to the tournament, Indonesia will hold two other prestigious events: the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol 2023 from January 27 to February 7, 2023, and the Asian Airgun Rifle/Pistol Cup 2023 from March 1 to 10, 2023.
“The World Cup and the Asian Cup can become their (athletes’) preparation to get points ahead of the Paris Olympics,” Oka stated.
The participants of the two events in 2023 could also use the competitions to prepare for the Asia rifle, pistol championship and qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, he added.
Hence, Indonesia will continue to prepare for the three tournaments, especially for the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol 2023, which starts early next year.
A number of supporting equipment from Switzerland, including accurate scoring devices, have been readied at the match venue.
“We are also preparing the accommodation in collaboration with several hotels,” Oka said.
Accommodation has become one of the concerns in implementing the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol 2023 since shooters from more than 70 countries will take part in the championship, he added.
“Thus, we will cooperate with a number of hotels, considering that the financial capacity of each country is different. Thus, we will offer it (affordable accommodation) according to the ability of each participant,” he added.
