The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) has finalized three names that will be proposed to the central government for the post of acting Jakarta governor.
“The names that we will propose to the Home Affairs Minister (Tito Karnavian) would be Heru Budi Hartono, Marullah Matali, and Bahtiar,” Jakarta DPRD Speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi announced while presiding over the legislature’s joint session at Jakarta DPRD building here on Tuesday.
For the joint session, nine party caucuses in the provincial legislature had been asked to propose three names they considered most suitable for the acting governor’s post.
A total of four names emerged following the tabulation of the party caucuses’ proposals.
They were head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono; Jakarta province’s regional secretary, Marullah Matali; Home Affairs Ministry’s director general of politics and general administration, Bahtiar Baharuddin; and Deputy IV of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), Juri Ardiantoro.
The tabulation revealed that Hartono and Matali received nine votes — or, all party caucuses proposed their names — while Bahtiar received six votes and Ardiantoro received three.
The legislature decided to go with the top three proposed names.
“Tomorrow (September 14, 2022), we will inform (the proposed names) to the Home Affairs Minister,” Marsudi said.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will have the final say on the appointment of the acting Jakarta governor who will replace Governor Anies Baswedan, whose term ends on October 16, along with Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria.
The Home Affairs Ministry will also propose three names to the President. Hence, Widodo will select the acting governor from a pool of six candidates proposed by the provincial legislature and the ministry.
The President-appointed governor will take office on an acting basis for more than two years, pending the 2024 Regional Government Head Elections (pilkada) to be held simultaneously with legislative and presidential elections.
