Jakarta: MPR Deputy Speaker Asserts Saving Palestine as a Constitutional Imperative for Indonesia

In Jakarta, Jazilul Fawaid, the Deputy Speaker of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), articulated that the efforts to support Palestine are intrinsically linked to upholding the Indonesian constitution. Speaking at the Solidarity Act for Palestine, Fawaid emphasized the humanitarian and constitutional significance of supporting the Palestinian cause. “Saving Palestine means saving humanity. Saving Palestine is part of implementing the constitution in Indonesia,” he stated, highlighting the alignment of this effort with Indonesia’s foundational principles.

According to Antara News Agency, Fawaid underscored his role as a representative of the MPR in working collaboratively with the Indonesian people to safeguard the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people, in accordance with the values enshrined in the Indonesian constitution. His presence at the rally reinforced the country’s commitment to the Palestinian struggle, aligning with the 1945 Constitution’s principle of eradicating colonialism.

Expressing his aspirations for the rally, Fawaid hoped that the peaceful gathering would contribute to eliminating injustice, violence, and cruelty globally. “I hope that no more injustice will occur; we must fight against injustice,” he said, reflecting a broader sentiment for global peace and fairness.

The rally, which took place on Sunday morning, saw widespread participation from various segments of society, including state officials like Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, and Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. Starting from 05:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the rally was a significant demonstration of support for Palestine.

A day prior, on Saturday, November 4, Indonesia had dispatched 51.5 tons of humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine in Gaza. This aid included food, medical equipment, blankets, and tents, among other necessities, marking a tangible expression of Indonesia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Fawaid’s statements and Indonesia’s concerted efforts reflect the nation’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting Palestine, grounded in the principles of its constitution and the broader ethos of human rights and dignity.
