The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda) canceled a music concert “Berdendang Bergoyang” at the Istora Senayan indoor stadium in Jakarta on Sunday for the sake of the spectators’ safety.
“We decided to stop the event after considering the spectators’ safety. We do not want them to fall victims,” spokesman for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Endra Zulpan stated in Jakarta on Monday.
The concert was originally planned on October 28-30, 2022. However, a massive influx of spectators on the second day of the concert prompted the police to cancel it on the third day.
Zulpan said the police found an indication of ticket sales exceeding the capacity of the indoor stadium.
“The capacity (of the stadium) is 10 thousand, but (the number of tickets sold) is 21 thousand. Of course, this violates (the regulation). Moreover, the event’s organizer stated that the number of tickets printed did not match the fact on the field,” he affirmed.
He said the police will also summon the event’s organizers to gain better clarity on the problem.
“Of course, the police will summon (them) to take responsibility (for the problem),” he remarked.
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police questioned the event’s manager and production officer as witnesses.
In addition, the police will summon two other witnesses for clarification, he remarked.
Chief of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Komarudin noted that one of the issues that drew the police’s attention is the difference between the number of spectators in the field and the number of tickets allowed in the permit.
“Is there any intention to print tickets outside those allowed in the permit?” he questioned.
