Jambi provides stalls for evicted used-goods vendors

The Jambi provincial government has offered stalls to clothing and used-goods traders at Angso Duo Market, Jambi, following their eviction from their former site, which will be converted into a green and open space.

“We have prepared vendor stalls in the market because on the land of the former Angso Duo Market, a green, open space will be built,” head of legal affairs at the Jambi Province Secretariat, Ali Zaini, informed in Jambi on Tuesday.

He said that the booths for secondhand goods traders are located in Block A. Vendors will have to pay a rent of Rp500 thousand per month for them, however, the Jambi government will allow them to use the booths for free for six months.

Ten out of 21 illegal stalls at the old Angso Dua Market were vacated and demolished earlier.

“All booths in the old Angso Duo Market location had to be demolished because a green space will be built at that location,” Zaini said.

Many vendors were selling secondhand goods at the former location of the old Angso Duo Market because they did not want to pay rent for the shophouses provided by the government. The vendors claimed that the location was not as strategic and the rent was higher.

“The location provided is far behind. Besides that, the rent is also relatively more expensive, so it is difficult for us to pay the rent,” Muktamar, a secondhand goods trader, said.

“The land is a Jambi government asset, so all secondhand goods vendors must move away from that location, and we have provided a solution,” Zaini said.
