Jirayu-Somkid Address Allegations of Human Parts Trafficking in Stem Cell Production


Bangkok: In a significant development, Mr. Jirayu Huangtrakul, advisor to the Prime Minister, and Mr. Somkid Chuekong, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, have officially received complaints concerning a human parts trafficking ring allegedly involving hospitals and private companies engaged in stem cell production. The operation is reported to have occurred over a thousand times, prompting a decisive crackdown.

According to Thai News Agency, the complaint was brought forward by Mr. Songkran Atchariyatrakul, a lawyer, along with an unnamed complainant who is an employee of a private stem cell production company. The complaint unveils that for the past seven to eight years, placentas and umbilical cords were illegally obtained from a well-known hospital in the Sathon area of Bangkok. Nurses and hospital staff allegedly sold these materials to the company, which used them to produce stem cells without the necessary legal permissions. The materials were reportedly sold to vario
us hospitals and clinics for prices ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 baht.

The operation is believed to be orchestrated by a high-ranking individual, whose spouse is a judge, and is suspected to have occurred on no less than 1,000 occasions. The complainant has expressed a desire to halt these illegal activities and bring those responsible to justice.

Mr. Jirayu stated that he has been aware of the case for two weeks and has instructed the national police chief to take decisive action. The authorities are still investigating whether similar incidents have taken place in other provinces and whether any individuals have received stem cell injections derived from these illegally obtained materials. Mr. Jirayu emphasized the need for public awareness and assured that the police would pursue legal action to address this issue comprehensively.
