Jokowi calls on Korpri to set example in adapting to change

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the Indonesian Civil Servants Corps (Korpri) to continue improving its member’s self-competence so that they can set an example on how to adapt to changes.

“In this era of disruption, all members of Korpri must be able to adapt to changes and improve their competence; thus they can serve as excellent models, not followers,” he remarked at the opening of the IX National Conference of Korpri, accessed from here on Friday.

He asked the corps to be more open-minded by eliminating all ego -related to sector, region, or knowledge- since there are many challenges that cannot be resolved by a single party alone.

“Collaboration across organizations, regions, sciences, and professions is the key to facing future challenges,” he affirmed.

Due to technological advancement, there is zero tolerance for complicated and lengthy services, he said.

Therefore, civil servants must implement new working methods by utilizing technology to run e-government, he added.

“Technology has enabled public services to be carried out faster and more accurately,” he said.

Furthermore, he asked all members of Korpri to continue to strengthen national unity and integrity.

Since civil servants come from various ethnic groups, religions, and cultures from across Indonesia, the organization must become a force that unites the nation to build a harmonious life for the Indonesian people, he remarked.

“The most important change is an improvement in values and culture, which can be implemented in our work ethic. Thus, the change can become real and beneficial for the community,” Jokowi stressed.

Changing any work ethic requires a good ecosystem, he noted. Hence, the system and governance must continue to be improved while civil servants are facilitated through a smart, comfortable, and productive work environment.

“We need more superior, honest, professional, innovative, and creative civil servants; thus we have to provide more quality education and training for them. I believe, with consistent bureaucratic reform, civil servants will be able to provide the best public services,” he added.
