The number of casualties in the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy in Malang District, East Java, has climbed to 134 people following the death of one victim treated at the Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital on Friday.
Saiful Anwar Hospital Medical Services Department Head Dr I. Wayan Agung remarked that the patient succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at 6:45 a.m. local time (UTC +7) after being treated at the hospital for 18 days.
“We are mourning the death of the victim after undergoing medical treatment (at the hospital) for 18 days,” Agung stated here.
He remarked that the victim, identified as Reivano Dwi Afriansyah, aged 17, a resident of Sumberpucung Sub-district, Malang District, was treated at the hospital for his head and chest injuries.
The victim was referred to the Saiful Anwar Hospital after being treated at Hasta Husada Hospital in Kepanjen, Malang, he added.
The hospital official confirmed that during hospitalization, a breathing apparatus was fitted onto the victim to facilitate breathing.
“For the last 18 days, we fitted a ventilator breathing apparatus because the (patient’s) condition fluctuated,” Agung remarked.
Meanwhile, four victims of the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy are still receiving treatment at Saiful Anwar Hospital, he remarked, adding that two victims are treated in the regular care unit, one at the high-care unit, and one at the intensive care unit.
“Those treated at the low-care unit could return home soon,” he remarked.
The hospital had earlier treated Andi Setiawan, another victim who passed away at the same hospital on Tuesday (October 18), thereby making him the 133rd casualty of the tragedy.
Earlier, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs’ deputy for the coordination of health quality improvement and population development, Agus Suprapto, remarked that the ministry is committed to continually monitoring the treatment of Kanjuruhan tragedy victims.
He said that the government also ensured that treatment costs of all victims of the tragedy are covered. He also appealed to those experiencing pain due to the tragedy to report, as they are eligible for free treatment.
