Khanh Hoa Implements Tech Solutions to Combat IUU Fishing

KHANH HOA—The south-central province of Khanh Hoa has introduced innovative technological measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. A pilot project utilizing the eCDT software to monitor fishing vessels has shown promising results, contributing significantly to sustainable fishing practices in the region.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the eCDT software enables real-time tracking of fishing vessels’ locations and activities, a crucial development in ensuring compliance with fishing regulations. This technology initiative, particularly in Nha Trang, has seen fishermen transitioning from traditional documentation methods to online declarations of their fishing operations at Hon Ro fishery port, the largest in the south-central region. This shift not only streamlines administrative procedures but also enhances the accuracy and efficiency of data collection related to fishing activities, playing a vital role in the ongoing efforts to eliminate IUU fishing.

The introduction of such technology is a key step forward for Khanh Hoa in adhering to national and international fishing standards, helping protect marine resources and supporting the livelihoods of local communities dependent on fishing.
