Sri racha: Khao Kheow Open Zoo has taken legal action against a Chinese tourist for allegedly using a slingshot to target animals within its premises. This incident has prompted the zoo authorities to urge all tour companies to ensure their visitors respect wildlife and adhere to zoo regulations.
According to Thai News Agency, the head of security at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Mr. Kritpas Inthipan, lodged a formal complaint at Sri Racha Police Station. The complaint followed a review of video footage captured by another tourist which depicted a Chinese female tourist, along with a group and a tour leader, wielding a slingshot in the Tiger Valley area of the zoo. The incident, recorded on October 20, raised concerns among zoo officials about potential harm to the freely roaming monkeys and other wildlife.
The zoo’s director, upon reviewing the footage, did not identify any visible harm towards animals but decided to proceed with legal actions as a precautionary measure. The director emphasized the importance of re
specting zoo rules and the well-being of the animals, likening them to one’s own children in terms of the care and respect they deserve. Following the incident, the zoo has communicated with the involved tour company to further investigate and prevent such occurrences in the future. Enhanced security measures, including CCTV and additional staffing during peak visitor times, have been implemented to safeguard the animals and ensure compliance with zoo policies. Officials are now working with the police to determine the appropriate charges for the implicated tourist.
