KPK receives 4,623 corruption complaints in 2022

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) received 4,623 corruption complaints from the public in 2022, deputy chief of the commission Johanis Tanak informed at the “2022 KPK Performance and Achievement” press conference here on Tuesday.

“Throughout 2022, KPK has received 4,623 reports through email, KPK’s ‘whistleblowing system’ (KWS), directly or (via) demonstration, social media, text message, mail or fax and telephone,” he said.

Most of the reports came from Jakarta (585), West Java (429), North Sumatra (379), East Java (357), and Central Java (237), he added.

Of the 4,623 reports, 363 did not meet the criteria for corruption allegation reports and were, therefore, archived, while 4,260 entered the verification process.

“From these 4,260 reports, 4,055 have been verified,” Tanak informed.

Based on the verification, 10 reports were forwarded to KPK’s internal team since they were related to the responsibility and authority of other work units within KPK.

Meanwhile, 3 reports were forwarded to KPK’s public relations and 2 reports were sent to KPK’s Inspectorate.

Then, 3 reports were forwarded to the Region Coordination and Supervision Directorate, 1 report to the enforcement deputy, while 1 report was sent to the enforcement deputy and board of supervisors.

Next, 1,631 reports were responded to be studied and 2,414 reports were yet to be responded to since they did not include a description of the corruption allegation.

The commission urged people to include a description of facts when filing corruption allegation reports with KPK so that they can be responded to.

“KPK has assured that it will follow through on every report from the public considered to be corruption and based on applicable laws,” Tanak said.
