Krungsri Highlights Investor Concerns Over Prime Minister’s Suspension

Bangkok: Krungsri Global Markets executives have expressed concerns about the impact of the suspension of Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra from her role as Prime Minister on investor confidence. According to Thai News Agency, the Constitutional Court's unanimous decision to accept the petition ordering Ms. Paethongtarn to cease performing her duties as Prime Minister has stirred uncertainty among investors. Ms. Rung Sangwanruang, Senior Director of Global Markets Planning at Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited, commented that while the suspension is expected to impact investor confidence and potentially the economy, the immediate financial repercussions have been limited. The value of the baht depreciated by only 10-15 satang following the verdict, indicating a modest reaction from the currency market. Ms. Rung further noted that trade negotiations and tariffs are likely to remain stable despite the suspension. She emphasized that the government and the House of Representatives continue to function, with onl y the Prime Minister's duties being temporarily halted. This continuity, she suggested, should mitigate significant disruptions in trade and economic policies.
