The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has urged local governments to push for accountable and inclusive governance to ensure equal access and participation of all community members.
Speaking at the“Human Rights District/City Mainstreaming Conference” here on Wednesday, chief of the Presidential Staff, Moeldoko said: “Through this conference, I hope that local governments will share their experiences with each other regarding the efforts that have been made in respecting diversity and inclusion.”
Identity politics based on ethnicity, religion, and gender injustice can still be seen playing out in several parts of Indonesia, he noted.
Therefore, he invited regional leaders to actively and wisely resolve human rights issues through the network of “human rights city/district.” That way, Indonesian society can remain strong and resilient in facing various social dynamics and current challenges.
Currently, the KSP chief said, Indonesia’s resilience is being tested amid the dire conditions of the global economy and geopolitics.
These challenging conditions include, among others, the threats of food and energy crises and even a global financial crisis.
Dealing with these threats will require the spirit of gotong royong, or cooperation in diversity to create stability in society.
“Local governments must contribute to creating a conducive situation so that we can focus on anticipating the impact of the world crisis, and no society falls into the abyss of poverty,” Moeldoko said.
The “2022 Human Rights District/City Mainstreaming Conference” has been organized by the National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM) together with the Presidential Staff Office and the International NGO Forum on Indonesia Development (INFID) from October 19 to 20, 2022.
The conference, which is themed “Strengthening Diversity and Inclusion, Realizing a Resilient and Harmonious Indonesia,” is expected to be a platform for local governments to mainstream human rights values.
