The Lampung provincial government has distributed 70,400 “Merah Putih” national flags or Red-and-White flags to commemorate the 77th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.
“The Home Affairs Minister has directed all regions, including Lampung, to implement the national program of giving out 10 million Red-and-White flags,” head of the Lampung nation’s unity and political body, M. Firsada, said here on Wednesday.
As part of the national flag distribution, the Lampung provincial government distributed 70,400 flags, he informed.
“(The need for) 70,400 Red-and-White flags can be fulfilled for the whole of Lampung, with details, there were 2,500 distributed in the district, (and) 3 thousand in Bandarlampung city,” he said.
The Lampung provincial government provided 5 thousand flags, and the rest were donated by the private sector, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), varsities, and the community.
“Today, there are five thousand flag units distributed in the Lampung provincial government area; community representatives are invited to help distribute,” Firsada said.
The Red-and-White flag distribution will be carried out until August 16, the day before the 77th anniversary of Indonesian independence, he informed.
“On August 17, it is hoped that all flags will be installed in every house, this activity (is expected) to foster the spirit of independence within the community,” he added.
A student from Bandarlampung city, Dedi, had a positive response for the flag distribution activities. “It is my first time to receive a free Red-and-White flag; (I) became enthusiastic in welcoming the 77th Indonesian anniversary,” he said.
“The hope is that everyone can have the Red-and-White flag at home, especially students because this flag is a symbol of our pride,” he added.
