Bangkok: Selling products without TIS certification will definitely be arrested. The Ministry of Industry has launched “TIS Watch” to increase the level of strict control of online products with AI to protect Thai consumers from over 90,000 substandard products.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that the Ministry of Industry is pushing forward with proactive measures to protect consumers and support Thai entrepreneurs. It has launched an intelligent online product inspection system, ‘MOT WATCH,’ developed by the Industrial Transformation Technology Committee (INDX), as an important tool for screening substandard products from the online world.
The ‘TIS Watch’ system uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology and automatic bots to scan online shopping websites covering all platforms, both domestically and internationally, to detect products that violate the law and do not pass the Thai Industrial Standards (TIS). In just the past 5 months, the system has collected links to as many as 98,756 products that are considered illegal.
It was found that the three most common types of products that violate the law are: 1. Plastics that come into contact with food 2. Children’s toys 3. Electrical appliances. These products are all subject to regulations that must receive TIS standards for consumer safety. However, they are widely imported and sold online, affecting local shops, Thai entrepreneurs, and creating a significant risk to product users.
In the past, inspections were limited due to insufficient personnel. Therefore, the government supports the development of AI technology as a tool to effectively expand the potential of supervision without requiring additional budget.
In addition to the government’s operations, the government also requests cooperation from all citizens. If you find any suspicious or substandard products, you can report them via the ‘Jaeng Ut’ channel on the Ministry of Industry’s LINE account to help protect the safety of Thai consumers.
‘The TIS Watch measure is not just a temporary policy, but a proactive defense to enhance consumer safety, support Thai entrepreneurs, and create a transparent and fair online trading environment. TIS Watch is the starting point of using technology to create a new defense for the Thai economy and confirms that Thailand will no longer be a market for substandard products. Please be assured that all government measures are for the best benefit of all Thai people,’ said Ms. Sasikarn.
