Lebak BPBD proposes relocation budget for soil movement victims

The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Lebak District, Banten Province, proposed a budget for the construction of permanent housing for victims of soil movement in the Jampang Cikoneng area, Sudamanik Village, Cimarga Sub-district.

“We have proposed a housing relocation budget of Rp1 billion,” Head of the Lebak District BPBD Febby Rizky Pratama informed here on Monday.

Earlier, 73 houses affected by the disaster were relocated to a safer area.

However, 41 houses with 51 families and two worship places had yet to be relocated due to limited budget.

Hence, the regional agency has resubmitted the relocation fund proposal for the development of permanent housing for the rest of the victims.

“We hope that relocation of the 41 houses and two worship facilities would be realized in 2022,” the head of Lebak BPBD stated.

He noted that currently, several houses in the Jampang Cikoneng area had been abandoned, as they were severely damaged and on the verge of collapsing.

Most of the buildings have developed cracks or have collapsed walls and pillars. Some of them had also collapsed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Currently, the residents stay in refugee camps to avoid casualties.

“We urge the residents to be patient since the local government will help to relocate them and build permanent housing,” Pratama added.

Meanwhile, the head of Neighborhood 02/09 of the Jampang Cikoneng area, Sarnata, noted that currently, the people of his neighborhood were taking refuge in the camps after their houses incurred heavy damage due to the soil movement that was aggravated by the increasing rainfall recently.

He stated that seven houses in his neighborhood had collapsed, while the other 34 units were in danger of collapsing.

Currently, Sarnata remarked that the disaster victims were waiting to be relocated, so they can live comfortably and safely.

“Hence, we welcome the attempt of the local BPBD to propose a relocation budget to the regional government,” he added.
