Legend of Luang Pu Thuat Draws Tourists to Khanom Sea’s Freshwater Well

Khanom: A unique natural phenomenon at the Khanom Sea in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province is attracting both Thai and international tourists. The site, tied to the legend of Luang Pu Thuat, features a freshwater well on Koh Nui Nok that is believed to be the result of a miracle performed by the revered monk. The well, resembling a footprint, becomes visible during low tide and has become a focal point for visitors seeking both cultural and spiritual enrichment.

According to Thai News Agency, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) orchestrated a media trip to promote tourism in the region, highlighting the natural and cultural attractions of Nakhon Si Thammarat. The itinerary included a boat trip through Had Khanom-Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park, where the freshwater well is located. Luang Pu Thuat’s legend speaks of a transformative event during his maritime journey when he reportedly turned seawater into fresh water by stepping on it, providing much-needed drinking water for travelers. This tale has fostered a
deep faith among locals and visitors alike.

The story has become integral to the cultural identity of the area, with many tourists visiting Koh Nui Nok to collect water from the well and pay homage to a statue of Luang Pu Thuat situated on the island. The well, approximately 30 inches in diameter, offers a tangible connection to the legend, and its waters are often taken home by visitors for worship. The island also features a statue of Luang Pu Thuat and a scenic viewpoint, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination.

Visitors can reach Koh Nui Nok by taking a long-tail boat from the local pier. The island is equipped with a walkway and offers panoramic views, further solidifying its status as a must-see location in Khanom District.
